VIVRE LA LUMIÈRE

A GROUP SHOW
paintings,
Saturday June 8 – Saturday June 22, 2024

To close the 2023-2024 season, Galerie du Lendemain presents “Vivre la lumière” (Living the light), its new group show devoted exclusively to painting.

The idea of representing light in painting has always been a concern of artists throughout the history of art, since the classical era, in particular by associating ancient and then religious representations with the idea of “divine light ” which comes, with its solar rays, to deliver a prophetic message or backlight the face of a madonna or a saint in a biblical scene.

Later, in the 18th century depictions of romantic landscapes often used very elaborate light contrasts in bucolic or pastoral scenes.

Finally comes the Impressionist period in 1874, the movement celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, which announces a total revolution in the use of light thanks to color applied in touches, thus creating depth and contrasts in a surprising and even shocking way for the time and showing reality reinterpreted by these innovative artists.

The modern and then contemporary periods have been able to synthesize these movements, light is no longer a subject in its own right today in painting because it already fully exists at the very moment the artist places his brush on the canvas. Essential, it comes to life and illuminates the canvas with each touch of color.

With this universal theme of light in painting, which can also be interpreted as “highlighting”, Galerie du Lendemain gave free rein to five contemporary artists to represent their personal universe and emotions: tender memory of moments of love life as if from a diary, poetic and narrative moments, humanist and symbolic messages in intense colors, thus passing from one world to another with light as the eternal guiding thread.
